Bill McGrath presented on "Copyright Licensing and Software Transactions," to the National Business Institute.

Our trademark team had a very productive month in April, racking up several successful outcomes for our clients in trademark disputes. Maureen Gorman, Barbara Mulvanny, and Chris Schneider obtained favorable judgments in two opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial & Appeal Board. In each, they were able to protect a client's trademark by preventing another party from registering a similar mark. Maureen, Chris and Champ Davis were also successful in protecting domain names for two of our clients. The firm prevailed in two separate domain name arbitration proceedings. On the international front, Maureen Gorman, working with foreign counsel, was able to secure a favorable judgment in Spain against a former distributor attempting to register our client's trademark.

May 2008
Champ Davis participated in a program at John Marshall on Law Day, entitled "Ethics in the Practice of Law" and spoke on "Ethics in Negotiation". Bill McGrath moderated the program.

June 2008
Bill McGrath delivered a presentation, "Notable New Cases in Copyright Litigation," to the Practicing Law Institute.

Bill McGrath has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the ABA's Landslide, a new publication focusing on issues in intellectual property law. The first issue is scheduled to appear in September.

Champ Davis has been appointed Chair of the ISBA Section Council on Alternative Dispute Resolution for the 2008-2009 Bar Year.

October 2008
Champ Davis spoke on Ethics in Licensing at the Practicing Law Institute Seminar held in Chicago.

November 2008
Bill McGrath gave a presentation, "Open Source Software - Panel Discussion of Jacobsen v. Katzer," to the Intellectual Property Law Society at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Champ Davis spoke on Ethics in Negotiations at the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration and Mediation Series Program, held at the Daley Center, in Chicago.

December 2008
Champ Davis and Christine Mohr's article, "Retention of Jurisdiction to Enforce a Settlement Agreement," was published in the December 2008 issue of In the Alternative, a publication of the Illinois State Bar Association-Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.

Bill McGrath presented "Recent Developments in Copyright Law" to the IICLE Intellectual Property Law Institute.
